Lake County – Two lanes are now open to southbound traffic on the US 27 overpass, at State Road (SR) 50 in Clermont. That’s after construction equipment on a transport truck struck the US 27 overpass yesterday afternoon and damaged the bridge beams, which temporarily shut down lanes on both US 27 and SR 50.
Today, the contractor modified the striping on the southbound side of US 27, which allows traffic to go around the damage, using two lanes again. Trucks are directed to stay in the right lane.
The US 27 and SR 50 Clermont interchange is at the center of a Florida Department of Transportation construction project that includes the replacement of this same US 27 bridge. It is slated for demolition in the next few weeks. The Florida Department of Transportation will continue to monitor the bridge, until replacement.
