The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is holding a public information meeting regarding plans to widen Apollo Boulevard and extend it across the Eau Gallie River in Brevard County.

The project consists of widening Apollo Boulevard from a two lane roadway to a four lane roadway. The proposed typical section involves a four lane divided roadway, raised medians providing a pedestrian refuge area, bike lanes and sidewalks. A new bridge will be constructed over the Eau Gallie River and will have the same typical section. Intersection improvements to Commodore Boulevard, Sarno Road, and Eau Gallie Boulevard will also be constructed.  Access to all businesses adjacent to the improvements will be maintained throughout the construction period.  Final design will be completed in summer 2013. The project is funded for construction and will begin in early spring of 2014.

The meeting is being held Thursday, May 17 at the Eau Gallie First Baptist Church located at 1501 W. Eau Gallie Boulevard in Melbourne.  The meeting begins at 5:00 p.m. and ends at 7:00 p.m. A brief project overview presentation will be given at 5:30 pm.  The presentation slideshow will also be available on this site, from the homepage:
